Spreading the Word: Debit Card Scams

Yahoo posted an article today about Debit Card Scams which got me thinking about how more and more thieves are finding ways to rob us!  I mean, seriously, isn't it enough that many of us are struggling to get by, but to find out that someone has stolen money (maybe even all the money we have) just really irks me.

According to the article provided by Ann Zimmerman and Miguel Bustillo (2011), "criminals have been known to install the devices by distracting cashiers or posing as repairmen, said Joseph LaRocca, senior advisor for asset protection at the National Retail Federation. Frequently, thieves will simply replace the stores' card processing machines with ones already embedded with skimmers."

It really feels like these "Skimmers" are being used frequently and that access to this type of theft are not only getting easier to obtain to tools, but to install as well.  I just wanted to spread the word and let everyone know about the risks of debit card theft that occur everyday.  Be cautious and aware of your surroundings when using your debit cards.  If the machine looks tampered with, don't use it.

Hope this article was helpful to you as it was for me.
